Safety Training Awards Recognition (STAR)

The Star Program is an ongoing effort of Painter’s District Council #14 and it’s employer partners, Chicago PDCA/FCA, and MWCC, working through the Finishing Trades Institute of DC 14 Chicago to create incentives for Journeypersons to pursue safety training and continuing education within the union workforce. This helps maintain us as the most highly-skilled and sought after workforce in the finishing trades!

 

BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION

  • Exposure to the latest industry techniques and training

  • Expand your skillset to help pick up more hours/advance your career

  • Refresh OSHA Cards - not required but recommended every (4) years!

  • Attend the end-of-year STAR banquet for dinner and an open bar!

  • Earn a chance to WIN A NEW CAR (tier 1 prize) and other substantial prizes at the annual banquet!

  • 1 ticket = 15 credits: 10 safety credits plus 5 credits of safety or skill

  • 2 tickets = additional 30 credits: safety or skill or a combination of both

  • There is a (2) ticket maximum and only (1) award per person

  • Participants may only win (1) vehicle within their lifetime through the STAR program

Program Requirements

  • You must be a painter or drywall finisher Journeyperson.

  • You must be a member in good standing for a full current program year to be eligible for prize ticket(s).

  • Working hours & STAR credit requirements to qualify for prize drawing;

    800 hours – Tier I prize drawing

    300 hours – Tier II prize drawing

    1 ticket = 15 credits: 10 safety credits plus 5 credits of safety or skill

    2 tickets = additional 30 credits: safety or skill or a combination of both


  • Only one (1) prize per participant is allowed per STAR program year.

  • Class registration can be done online at www.dc14apprenticeship.org or by calling (708) 449-5282.

    NOTE: the following classes must be registered at least one (1) month prior to the class start date;

    Examples: IL Lead Worker/Supervisor, CCA, CAS, C-5 & C-3

  • You must un-register no less than 24 hours before your scheduled class. One (1) no call/no show will restrict you from registering for any STAR classes in the following quarter. Two (2) no call/no shows will restrict you from registering for any STAR classes for the following two (2) quarters.

  • Unregistered walk-ins to any class will not be allowed entry.

  • First time STAR participants are required to provide their full Social Security Number and Member ID in order to receive STAR credit. When taking subsequent classes, only your last 4 digits and Member ID will be required.

  • Participants may only win one (1) vehicle within their lifetime while participating in the STAR Program.

  • You must register at least two (2) weeks prior to the class starting date.

  • You must show a current quarter Union card or official receipt from the District Council in order to receive STAR credit.

  • You must complete and pass the entire course to receive STAR credit.

  • Some classes may require pre-requisites in order to be eligible (classes will be labeled with asterisk).
